Welcome. I’m Cindy Dunn, President of CCAD inc. This video demonstrates how to apply a Background Mask to Multiline Text Objects.
Often text objects, such as room labels, overlap actual drawing elements. You may be tempted to trim the drawing elements to make it easier to see the labels. But what if those drawing elements are blocks or Xrefs?
A Background Mask can be applied to MTEXT objects to mask or hide drawing elements that overlap the text.
The Background Mask property can be applied when the MTEXT object is created or modified via the Text Editor tab or toolbar. It can also be applied using the Properties Palette.
There are two options for the Background Mask: the Border Offset Factor and the Fill Color.
The Border Offset Factor is the amount of white space surrounding the text. It is specified as a factor of the text height. The minimum Border Offset Factor is 1.0.
The Fill Color is the color that fills the invisible rectangular area defined by the Border Offset Factor. Check the Use drawing background color to create an invisible mask.
The masked area conforms to the textbox size of the object, not the actual space occupied by the characters. You may need to adjust the textbox width to mask the desired drawing objects.
