AutoCAD 2015: The Lasso Selection

Help with video player controls

Transcript of Video Tutorial

Welcome. I'm Cindy Dunn, President of CCAD inc. In this video I will point out new selection features and demonstrate the new Lasso Selection in AutoCAD 2015.

AutoCAD 2015 added several object selection enhancements. Little icons called BADGES are displayed for various commands and functions to provide visual feedback. The possible results of several commands are indicated with COMMAND PREVIEW.

Objects may be selected in a variety of ways for commands like ERASE, MOVE, COPY, MIRROR and STRETCH. AutoCAD 2015 added a new selection option: Lasso.

The Lasso selection lets you choose objects with an irregularly shaped boundary. Click, hold and move your cursor to begin the Lasso selection. Moving your cursor to the right indicates a Window Lasso, selecting only objects entirely inside the Lasso area. Moving to the left indicates a Crossing Lasso, selecting not only the objects within the Lasso area, but any objects that touch the Lasso.

To select with a traditional rectangular Window or Crossing, click and release. Move to the right for a Window and left for a Crossing.

Use the Selection tab of the Options command to control the behavior of the implied Lasso and Windowing, as well as Command Preview.

In both Lasso and Window selection modes, the selected objects appear thicker and lighter (or darker depending on your background color).
